“Harvest” (24″ x 24″)

Description

It is all about big brush strokes and earth tones.  

I select my colours and then mix a few together to unify them……sometimes minimizing the intensity or saturation of a colour, I add a little bit of the complement colour. It does the trick. 

Sap green and ultramarine blue are too intense for me by themselves. 

Whether it is water, land, sky or climate that evolves at the time, i just dive in making big brush strokes.  I usually start with a dark first.  

Fast moving strokes until it starts to come together and then I start thinking more and subtract and add in different areas to pull together the composition. 

I also use a palette knife to give a different effect and mark make with Derwent water soluble sticks. 

In my new landscape series, I am painting over old paintings and there is lots of exciting textures and colours that get revealed adding interest. One of a kind.
